“I can show my daughters I didn’t quit. I can be an example to them for their future.”
After 14 years of a successful career in the oil industry, “Blake” was placed on furlough for 6 months due to Covid-19. When his neighbor, who had been impacted by Center of Hope’s education classes, approached him about the Center’s GED tutoring, Blake decided to pursue the opportunity and enroll in the classes.
Instead of seeing his circumstances as negative, Blake made the most of his time and focused on a goal he had always wanted to accomplish – to pass his GED test. Through hard work, diligence in his studies and the instruction of his tutors, Blake celebrated the accomplishment of receiving his Certificate of HSE within 3 months!
“I’m not going to look at this layoff as negative. I’m going to look at this as an opportunity,” said Blake. “I believe everything happens for a reason.”
In addition to his educational accomplishments, Blake saw the year 2020 as a time to refocus, to return to the basics and priorities of life like spending more time with his family and two daughters.
Blake has since returned to his job in the oil field but is now open to new opportunities that may open up because of having his certificate and fulfilled dream.
