“I have the best teachers in the world,” says Christina, one of our literacy students. “They are very patient, very understanding. If I get stuck on something, I can count on them. They explain it to me if I don’t understand. I have the best.”
Christina’s eagerness to learn has expanded her skills and enjoyment for everyday life. She is learning to read current events, developing a passion for history and watches movies with subtitles in her personal time to practice seeing and hearing the words as she works towards her goal to receive her High School Equivalency.
Christina has persevered as technical obstacles come her way, even if that includes sitting in a hot barn to ensure she has the best Wifi connection during her class time. She meets with her teacher, Sharon, to practice oral and written literacy by reading her favorite book and answering questions about the chapter from that particular day.
