Finding Calm in Her Journey
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
“The first time I came to Center of Hope was to get help with my teeth,” said Amber. “I was so nervous about coming, but with no insurance and very little money, I didn’t have a choice.” As a single mother, Amber was doing the best she could by working part-time and taking care of her special needs son. With all the courage she could muster, she walked into the Center and sat down with Misti.
“Misti made me feel welcome as she listened to every word I said. There was no judgment and talking with Misti was like seeing God’s glory unfold before me,” Amber said gratefully. “For the first time in a while, I had options.” Amber left that day with groceries, an appointment with our dental coordinator, and information about classes.
After a few days, the conversation with Misti was still resonating with her. Amber felt ready to make a change in her life so she enrolled and completed STEPS class and our 5-week financial management class. But it wasn’t until she took the Center’s CALM class that her biggest impact came. This 5-week course is based on Max Lucado’s book, Anxious for Nothing.
“I suffer from anxiety attacks. I handle them the best way I know, but nothing I try really works,” admits Amber. “Everything changed after taking CALM. The instructors taught me to find God in times of trouble and to turn to Him when I feel anxiety. This class helped me immensely and I make sure I keep my book handy because it reminds me God is always near.”
It was a simple internet search for dental help that led Amber to a place that would walk with her through life’s ups and downs.
