Hungry for More
“Mike” was discovered one afternoon stealing food from the Center’s outdoor freezer. Upon being approached, he immediately confessed, saying, “I’m sorry I took food from you. I am so hungry and didn’t want to resort to stealing from a grocery store.” As we talked with Mike in greater detail, we learned that he had been living out of his truck and didn’t have any friends or family to help him. Filled with compassion for his situation, we provided him with a warm meal and groceries, and shared with him information about how we can help him get back on his feet.
Through Mike’s story, the harsh reality of those suffering in our community is brought to light — so dire that it drove Mike to steal. At Center of Hope, our mission is to alleviate the suffering of those in need. While many families seek immediate relief from crises, others require sustained support to overcome their hardships.
In Matthew 25:35, Jesus illustrates the importance of compassionate action towards serving the poor and oppressed. God wants our lives to overflow with mercy, love, and compassion — the marks of His kingdom. Through this ministry, we strive to do more than just give the hungry something to eat. We invite them in, walk with them along their journey, and help them find HOPE through the love of Christ.
