More Than Groceries
A DIFFICULT SEASON
When Lauren first came to Center of Hope in Springtown, she was struggling with postpartum depression, grieving the loss of her father, and facing financial hardship. Asking for help was difficult. Past experiences had left her feeling judged and ashamed, but with few options remaining, she walked through the doors of Center of Hope.
I was so nervous, but I was greeted with a warm welcome that put me at ease. The hardest part was asking for help. I took a deep breath and said, ‘I need groceries.’
LEARNING TO TRUST
During her visits, Lauren connected with Misti, one of Center of Hope’s life coaches. Trust had always been difficult for Lauren, but over time she found someone who genuinely cared and encouraged her. As they worked together, Misti recommended counseling through Center of Hope’s partner, Safe Harbor.
Although opening up felt intimidating, Lauren committed to counseling and spent the next year processing her grief and past hurts. Through counseling, she found healing, clarity, and the strength to move forward.
At the same time, Misti helped Lauren work through her family and financial challenges. “There were moments when I doubted myself, but Misti never did,” Lauren said. “She reminded me what I was capable of and encouraged me to keep going.”
A NEW BEGINNING
Now, a year and a half later, Lauren’s life looks completely different. “I can finally say I am debt free and no longer need services,” she shared. “I have let go and let God take over. My eyes have been opened to my self-worth, and I do not feel ashamed anymore.”
Looking back, Lauren is grateful for the journey. “I came to Center of Hope because I needed groceries,” she said. “I stayed because they helped me find hope again. They didn’t just help me survive—they helped me believe in myself.”
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
