A Leap of Faith
Born in Guatemala, Liseth’s childhood was marked by challenges and separation from her parents. She was raised by her grandmother while her parents worked in the U.S., holding on to the hope of one day reuniting with them. That dream became reality in 2022 when her visa was approved, and she was finally able to join her family in the United States. Soon after, she and her husband welcomed a child, and she found new motivation through the support of family already living here. She knew her journey toward success had to begin with learning English.
Liseth first enrolled in local ESL classes but quickly faced the challenge of needing child care in order to continue. But a conversation with her mother-in-law and a friend opened the door to Center of Hope, where she discovered ESL classes and free on-site child care support.
Soon, Liseth completed three levels of ESL, and it was her teacher who encouraged her to take an even bigger step by earning her GED. This wasn’t a dream she had even had for herself but with encouragement from her instructors, she took that step towards her GED.
Liseth persevered with the support of her tutors. There was still something missing – she didn’t have a home church. She began attending a Bible study held at Center of Hope. Here is where her instructor invited her to church, and she was excited to join. Liseth began attending The Hills church. Attending an English speaking church was a challenge, but one that she was ready for! As her relationship with the Lord grew, she knew she was ready to make a commitment to Him in baptism. Last June, she was baptized by her very own instructor who had encouraged her from the very beginning.
Through Center of Hope, Liseth found more than education; she found faith and community. She earned her GED this year and feels confident about her future. With new dreams in her heart, she plans to attend Weatherford College. Her journey has inspired her to dream bigger, and she hopes to one day serve others through a career in counseling.
