When families come to Center of Hope, they receive short-term crisis assistance after an interview process. During the interview, we identify their income and expenses and develop a Plan of Action with them.
Because every situation is different, we don't have rigid income restrictions. Instead, we have basic guidelines to determine eligibility for financial assistance. Our most common financial assistance is for electric or propane bills. We rarely pay an entire bill, but pledge a determined amount and assist the client in identifying solutions for the remaining balance.
After two to three visits, we offer Financial Management education to give individualized budget recommendations. These volunteers take an in-depth look at the family’s finances and help them examine their purchases and establish a budget. This financial education helps a family gain the ability to pay their bills consistently and develop a plan for their future.
